Thanks to Churchill's wonderful Lyne Filion, we were able to welcome the Blues In The Schools program back to our school. Blues In The Schools is a fantastic program, created to preserve and promote the art, culture and heritage of blues music. Churchill had the opportunity to experience live blues performances by well known blues musicians T.J. Wheeler and Maria Hawkins.
Each day consisted of an hour long performance which included some facts about instruments, music and history.
Alena's grade 2/3 class was chosen for the second phase of the program, where the group had the chance to focus on an in depth look at blues history and music techniques and also had the chance to perform in front of the school.

During the week that the Blues In The School's program was running, our lovely Study Buddies came down to serenade us with their ukuleles.
Someone was very proud to have his sister perform!
We decided spontaneously the day of the sharing that we would perform our beloved song "Rags". It has a traditional blues sound and was also way too cute not to share. Before Calendar time the morning of the sharing we had been singing the song "Rags" and one of the children declared that they knew all the words and that they could sing it all by themselves.
A few other friends agreed that they too could remember the whole song on their own, so they came up to the front of the carpet and belted the whole song out perfectly (actions included). This starting a train of wonderful performances. Every single child had a chance to perform either alone or with friends in front of the class.
So that's when I brought up sharing in front of the school. The children were thrilled. Many had never performed in front of a crowd before; it was very exciting! So we practiced the song a few more times so we would have it down pat.
The Kinders were very excited to perform in front of the school! They did such a wonderful job! We are so proud!
(The video quality turned out
terrible after I uploaded it, sorry!)
